Tyre Emissions and Sustainability USA 2024

Emissions Analytics be holding its own conference in the USA 2024

Over two billion tyres are manufactured every year. What opportunities are there to reduce the carbon footprint and environmental impact of a tyre from production to end-of-life? How can the tyre industry develop a sustainable sourcing system for raw materials and end-of-life recycling, to develop a true circular economic cycle? Are current regulations sufficient to encourage and protect a sustainable supply chain? Tyre manufacturing is an energy intensive process – what can be done to improve efficiency and decarbonise?

20th FAD-Conference „Challenge – Exhaust Aftertreatment“

Emissions Analytics will be exhibiting.

The FAD conference will take place for the 20th time this year. This is a sign that exhaust aftertreatment is still an important issue. In the early years it was all about conveying the necessity and introduction of exhaust gas aftertreatment technologies for combustion engines in all areas of application, but today we are addressing the possibilities of implementing CO2-neutral mobility with the combustion engine. For this, the tried and tested must be adapted, but completely new solutions must also be developed and discussed. Based on this, the presentations for this year’s conference were selected. Whether as a participant on site or online participant or exhibitor – we look forward to welcoming you in November 2023 in Dresden.

20 years of the FAD conference are also an opportunity for us to try new things. The trade exhibition accompanying the conference will be opened on the evening before the conference as part of a get-together.

The 12th Annual Portable Emissions Measurement System (PEMS) workshop is being rebranded to be the Onboard Sensing, Analysis, and Reporting (OSAR) conference!

The conference is scheduled for March 30th & 31st, 2023 in Riverside, California. This workshop’s theme, Moving towards Onboard Sensing, Analysis, and Reporting (OSAR) will focus on a wide range of measurement systems, activity measurements, as well as measurements of less traditional sources.

The OSAR conference will continue to cover PEMS and onboard sensing systems, ranging from fully compliant regulatory PEMS (1065 Compliant PEMS), to mini-PEMS, to smaller systems, which include everything from micro PEMS (µPEMS), nano PEMS (nPEMS), in-situ sensors, activity measurements (PAMS), Real Emissions Assessment and Logging (REAL), to Simple Emissions Measurement Systems (SEMS). In this year’s conference, we will highlight the latest advancement in these systems, research based on making and analyzing emissions and activity with these systems, and how such systems can be used in different applications.

In additional to these more traditional topics, this year conference will also include a focus on activity, emissions, and/or performance measurements from less traditional sources, such as battery electric vehicles and equipment, and brake and tire measurements. This emphasis will allow the conference to address issues related to zero emission vehicle and equipment as these technologies continue to expand into the transportation sector.

Route map to Net Zero Construction

Emissions Analytics is pleased to welcome Daniel Marsh and Carl Desouza from Imperial College London as our guests to discuss the “Route map to Net Zero Construction.”

Construction machines are typically diesel powered and, depending upon their age and application, can produce relatively high levels of NOx and particulates in urban environments. The construction industry is determined to reduce its environmental impact and meet NetZero targets, but choosing the right path can be daunting when numerous alternatives exist. There is no one size fits all solution.

Our webinar will discuss results from various projects that were led by Imperial College London, alongside Emissions Analytics’ real-world emissions testing services.

This is not intended to be a definitive guide or to provide prescriptive answers, simply to share independent test results and support sharper industry discussion.

The agenda is as follows:

  • Overview of current legislation and role of real-world emissions testing

  • Alternative fuels

  • Retrofit solutions

  • Power generation

  • Energy efficient options

  • Government and academic influence

  • Future challenges

Nick Molden CEO and Founder of Emissions Analytics will be presenting our next webinar on Exposures to particles and volatile organic compounds across multiple transportation modes.

What’s the cleanest way to get from London Paddington to the centre of Oxford? Not in terms of tailpipe emissions, but rather in terms of the traveller’s own exposure to the air quality inside the mode of transport. Emissions Analytics studied this in a project for the TRANSITION Network in the UK, and this webinar will present the findings.

Personal exposures were tested in real-world conditions across nine different transport modes on journeys, covering active travel, public transport and private cars. Such exposures are relevant to questions of traveller comfort, safety in the context of airborne diseases such as Covid-19 and a growing awareness of health, safety and productivity effects of interior air quality. Pollutants measured were particle number, particle mass, carbon dioxide and speciated volatile organic compounds, using devices carried on or with the traveller.

The results will reveal the most and least polluted methods of transport, and the likely sources of the pollution. Further, the dynamic nature of pollution will also be shown, to quantify when total exposures are mostly driven by short, larger spikes rather than persistent lower levels. The findings are intended to feed into the growing body of work around vehicle interior air quality, including the new CEN standardised methodology, CWA17934.

Webinar: Comprehensive vehicle emissions testing using thermal desorption (TD) and GC×GC–TOF MS

16:00 BST / 17:00 CEST / 11:00 EDT / 08:00 PDT

With the increased uptake of hybrid and electric vehicles, non-exhaust emissions are now of growing environmental concern. In this webinar, our guest speaker, Dr Nick Molden, (Emissions Analytics), will demonstrate the use of thermal desorption (TD) for versatile sampling of emissions from exhausts, vehicle interiors and tyres. When coupled with GC×GC–TOF MS this provides improved chemical fingerprinting of emissions to enhance our understanding of how vehicles may impact the environment and human health.

Key learning objectives

  • See how GC×GC–TOF MS can gain insight into volatile emissions from car trim materials, such as plastic, textiles and rubber.

  • Find out how characterising tyre composition can help us to understand the sources of microplastics being observed in air, water and soil samples.

  • Learn how to future-proof your lab in case of expansion of the target lists of regulated compounds.

Who should attend?

  • GC-MS analysts, lab supervisors and directors
