The quality of the air we breathe whilst traveling in various types of vehicle, ranging from cars to buses, is impacted by a range of factors, direct and indirect pollutants. Whilst exhaust emissions are strictly regulated, air quality standards in our vehicles are far less stringent – particularly in real-world conditions. Applying its expertise in tailpipe emissions measurement, Emissions Analytics has developed measurement technologies, techniques and methods to test vehicle interior air quality (VIAQ) in on-road driving.

Our Pollution In-cabin Measurement System (PIMS^©) samples a range of pollutants inside and outside the vehicles as the vehicle drives in real-world conditions, to understand the rate at which the pollutants enter. At the same time, we can measure the build-up of compounds that originate inside the vehicle, including off-gassed volatile organic compounds from materials, and carbon dioxide from human respiration.
